A Sunday Walk at Schützenwiese
Sundays in Austria are slow days meant for relaxation. Since most businesses are closed on Sundays, Austrians spend their time with their families, friends and in nature. Every so often, I like to spend my Sundays with a nature walk at the Schützenwiese.
Schützenwiese is a park located in the Warmbad area of Villach with several peaceful and well-maintained trails. It is the perfect place for me to take my dog for a walk and it is only a short drive from the city center.
One of the things I enjoy about living in Villach is how easy it is to get into nature. Although Villach is a city, it is surrounded by forests, mountains, and lakes so you are never very far from nature.
I went to the Schützenwiese at the start of Spring and the plants were just beginning to come back from the Winter cold. I saw a few flowers sprinkled here and there and the first signs of Spring were starting to appear.
I look forward to spending more of my Sundays here throughout the year. Admittedly, it has taken me a full year to adjust to the idea of Sunday = relaxation day. Re-programming my American brain has been no easy feat, but it has made me appreciate the easiness of a perfectly free day. So hello Sunday nature walks, hopefully, I can make you more of a regular thing.
